Texas Teaching Salary

Have you considered a career in teaching? Have you considered a teaching career in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas? If not, you might want to think about it. The benefits of being a teacher have changed immensely. Sure, it’s great to be able to have vacation time off, school holidays, and be able to impact the minds of young learners, but you still want to know what comes along with the position beside the base salary, right?

Base Teacher Salary

Did you know that starting salaries for teachers in DFW school districts can begin at $52,000 and some teachers are even earning more than $95,000? DFW school districts are implementing strategic compensation models that can help an educator earn a more desired salary. These models include the TEI, Uplift Education, ACE, and STEM.

Here’s how teachers are earning more

Uplift Education

Similar to the TEI, teachers can also be compensated for their performance through Uplift’s Education Rewarding Excellence Compensation Program. Teachers that perform well can earn up to a 6 percent salary increase each year. As reported by dallasftworth.teach.org, uplift teachers have the opportunity to earn over $96,000 a year. This model does not have a ceiling cap on performance pay raises, so teachers have the potential to keep advancing over their teaching career.

Accelerating Campus Excellence

Some DFW School districts are rewarding teachers who teach at the districts lowest-performing campuses through a school turnaround program. Accelerating Campus Excellence or (ACE) is a program that incentivizes top teachers to work at highest-need schools to ensure that effective teachers are in the classrooms where they are most needed and ultimately, help improve student learning. Dallas ISD offers stipends ranging from $8,000 – $12,000 to teachers who work on ACE campuses.

Science Technology Engineering Mathematics/Bilingual

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics program or (STEM), is a curriculum model that is geared toward educating students in these specific areas. Instead of teaching these four concepts as separate subjects, STEM integrates them into one learning program based on real-world applications. Stem teachers have the opportunity to start at $54,225, and in the DFW area, districts offer annual stipends ranging from $2,000 – $4,000 for STEM Teachers.

Bilingual teachers have the opportunity to earn more as well. A bilingual teacher can make a starting salary of $55,765. The DFW area is also offering annual stipends ranging from $3,000-$4,000 for bilingual teachers.

Total Potential Salary

So what does an overall potential teacher salary look like for someone teaching in Dallas-Fort Worth? We’ve done the math for you!

We said that a starting salary begins at $52,000. However…

  • If you are teaching in Dallas on an ACE campus or as an ACE teacher, you could potentially make $64,000! ($52,000+$12,000)=$64,000.
  • If you are a STEM teacher, you could potentially be making  $58,225! ($54,225+$4,000)= $58,225.
  • If you are a Bilingual teacher, you could potentially be making $59,765! ($55,765+$4,000) = $59,765.

With all of these factors into the equation, it is clear that the possibilities of earning more are definite options for teachers. The “standard” teaching salary is not as standard as people think here in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. Missing the opportunity to earn more is equivalent to leaving money out on the table and we wouldn’t want that for new teachers!

Aside from great salary opportunities and incentives, Dallas ISD is offering even more generous benefits.

Teacher Loan Forgiveness

Dallas ISD is offering some teachers loan forgiveness on their student loans depending on certain criteria.

Funding Opportunities

Funding Opportunities such as grants and scholarships are available to teachers who might want to pursue a development experience.

Also, the government has created the Good Neighbor Next Door program. Through this program, the U.S. Department of Housing and Development offers a discount of 50% from the list price of the home to teachers.
