Texas Teacher Certification FAQs - Alternative Teacher Certification

You may apply at any time; iteach Texas does not have any application deadlines.

It is your responsibility to request that your transcripts be sent to iteach Texas. We do not request transcripts on your behalf. If you already have official transcripts, you may mail them directly to iteach Texas.

Email your official transcripts to [email protected]. To get your transcripts, visit your college or university website. Normally you can request the transcripts be sent directly to us from the Registrar’s office for a small fee.

By state rule, you must have a minimum graduating GPA of 2.5 or a GPA of 2.5 in your last 60 hours of college coursework. If you are unsure whether you meet this requirement, you can evaluate your GPA using our GPA calculator tool (Excel file, 39KB).

Graduate courses taken at an accredited college or university may be included in your calculation for your GPA in your last 60 hours of coursework.

If you do not meet the minimum GPA requirement, you will need to take additional undergraduate or graduate coursework in order to improve your GPA in your last 60 hours of coursework

iteach Texas determines your eligibility for certification in a content area during your application evaluation. Qualifications for content area certification may be demonstrated by:

1. Conferred degree in a specific content area based on an academic major. If your undergraduate or graduate degree directly relates to a content area, this area will be identified for enrollment.
2. If you do not have an academic major in a specific certification area, then iteach Texas will review transcripts for at least 15 hours in identified content areas of English, math, science, and social studies for Core Subjects, 4-8 Subject Test or EC-12 Special Education.

You can elect to take a test for identification of a specific content area via the TExES Content Test or TXPACT Test passed.

The total cost of the program is $4399. 

The monthly payment option requires a $99 enrollment fee and a commitment to $99 monthly payments while completing the program.

Once the field experience begins the payments will increase in order to pay your balance in full by the end of the two semesters. Once you are hired the payment amount will increase from $99 to ensure that your balance is paid in 8-10 payments.

The cost of the program is $0 to apply and $99 to enroll if you choose the monthly payment plan option. You can begin our program with the $99 enrollment fee or choose our deferred plan option to pay $250 enrollment fee and then $0 dollars until you are hired.

With both payment plans your payments change once you start your two-semester field experience and we begin to observe you. That means that the balance of your amount due will be divided into 8-10 interest-free equal monthly payments.

No, iteach Texas is not an institution of higher education. Therefore, the program does not qualify for financial aid.

No; teacher hiring decisions are made by school principals and district administrators. Therefore, no teacher certification program, including iteach Texas, can guarantee you a teaching position.

iteach Texas does provide necessary documentation that you are eligible for a your Intern/Probationary Certificate; this is an essential part of the application process for uncertified teachers. In addition, we provide information about the school hiring process and notify candidates about teacher openings to give you the best chance of finding a teaching job. To date, more than 9,000 teachers have obtain teaching jobs while enrolled in the iteach Texas program.

You may begin securing an internship as soon as you are accepted into the iteach Texas program and fulfill the initial requirements of:

• 30 hours of observation
• Completion the Pre-Hired Courses (5100 – 5300)
• Content test passed (including all supplemental test, if needed) in the area of hire

Once you have fulfilled the initial requirements listed above, you will receive a Statement of Eligibility. You provide this form to school districts for verification of eligibility for field experience. Once you obtain a field experience placement, you must complete all of the program requirements by the end of your field experience.

You can complete your instructional coursework within a few months. The whole iteach Texas program is designed to be completed within one school year, but you have two full school years to find a teaching position while enrolled in the iteach Texas program.
