TX-Pact Test Program Enrollment

We have received questions about the new admission rule change to require the TX-PACT test for program enrollment, and the simple answer is – there is no recent rule change. The current admission rules have been in place since January 2020.

While some programs require the TX-PACT test for enrollment, it is not a state requirement for program enrollment.

Under Texas Administrative Code Title 19, Part 7, Chapter 227, Subchapter A, Rule 227.10, the following is required for program enrollment:

• Bachelors Degree (or be in your final semester)
• 2.5 GPA
• Identification of a content certification area based upon semester credit hour

While the TX-PACT can be used for program enrollment, the state rule is only required if a candidate does not have a 2.5 GPA. A PACT is NOT necessary for candidates who meet the 2.5 GPA and have completed a minimum of either 12 or 15 semester credit hours of coursework.

So what is the TX-PACT test?

The TX-PACT test can be used for admission into a preparation program, but TX-PACT cannot be used for the issuance of your state certification.  You will still be required to take the TExES content and PPR test for program completion.  The TX-PACT is an additional requirement which adds $106 to the program cost and delays your timeline for program enrollment.
